The Stichting voor Alzheimer Onderzoek (SAO) - Fondation pour la Recherche sur la Maladie Alzheimer (FRMA) finances awards for scientific research on Alzheimer’s disease. Applications are accepted from scientists working at Belgian research institutions. Applicants must be experienced in Alzheimer’s research; younger researchers have to be associated with an experienced laboratory. Investigators of the same laboratory or research group can apply for a grant provided that there is no scientific or financial overlap between the proposed research projects. Applications for Standard Awards are accepted for a maximum of € 80.000 for two years and a maximum of € 40.000 per year Applications for Pilot Project Awards are accepted for a maximum of € 40.000 for two years with a maximum of € 20.000 per year. Only young researchers with a PhD thesis graduation and a maximum of six years after their graduation are eligible in this award category. Award budgets can be used for salaries, equipment and supplies and will be made available in November 2008. Awards are granted on the basis of scientific merit of the research proposal and its relevance to improving our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Applications will be peer reviewed by the European Scientific Advisory Board chaired by Prof. Dr. Christine Van Broeckhoven. The application deadline is April 7th, 2008.
