2011 Call for Grant applications in Alzheimer disease and related disorders
The Foundation for Alzheimer Research (SAO-FRMA) awards grant applications in the areas of Basic and Clinical research of Alzheimer disease and related disorders. Grant applications are accepted from principle investigators with a PhD degree and working at Belgian non-profit research organizations.
Standard Grant Applications: research proposals have to be written for a 2-years award period with an overall maximum of € 100.000 and a maximum of € 50.000 per award year. Applicants should be experienced in research into Alzheimer disease and related disorders.
Pilot Grant Applications: research proposals have to be written for a 2-years award period with an overall maximum of € 50.000 and a maximum of € 25.000 per award year. Only young scientists with maximum six years post PhD graduation are eligible applicants in this award category. Young researchers have to be associated with an experienced research team working on Alzheimer disease and related disorders.
Multiple investigators of the same department, laboratory or research group can apply in the same grant cycle year for a research award, pilot or standard, provided that there is no scientific or financial overlap between their grant application proposals.
Grant applications are internationally peer-reviewed by 2 independent reviewers with expertise in the research domain of the research proposal. Awards are granted on the basis of scientific merit and relevance to improving our understanding of Alzheimer disease and related disorders. Awards start on January 1st, 2012.
The 2011 grant application deadline is July 4th midnight (GMT+1). Applications should be completed using the 2011 grant application guidelines and 2011 application documents and submitted by e-mail to the Scientific Secretariat of SAO/FRMA (scientific.secretariat@sao-frma.be). Incomplete grant applications or grant applications that do not comply with the grant application guidelines, as well as grant applications that arrive after the application deadline are NOT eligible and will NOT enter the international review process.

In 2010, the SAO-FRMA has awarded 8 grant applications (5 standard and 3 pilot awards) for a total amount of € 587,496. Since 1998, SAO-FRMA has awarded Alzheimer disease and related disorders research with € 4,171,180.
